Math is Key’s mission is to foster a love for math in our students through logic, reason, and mentorship.

Meet your tutor.

Hi, I'm Matthew. Devoted husband, father to two boys, landlord to 11 chickens, and a math tutor to over 150 students for more than a decade. I teach all levels of math from elementary, high school, and university.

Nice to meet you.

I double majored in math and psychology at the University of Toronto. While I was a part-time math tutor during my studies, I noticed how so many bright young minds were not being nurtured to their fullest potential in math by our school systems. Teachers lacked the time and resources to meet every student's learning needs. Students were convinced that they were ‘bad’ at math. I wanted to change that.

Since my first days as a tutor, parents would tell me that I had a gift for teaching and making sense of math’s toughest equations for their kids. This reinforced in me the sense that teaching is not merely a job, but a vocation.

To help my students succeed and foster a love for math, I bring what is lacking in our schools today when I tutor: developing a deeper understanding of the material with logic and reason, more time, and mentorship. With this formula, over the years, I've seen some pretty impressive achievements from my students. I take great joy in proving to my students that they can, in fact, be good at math.

I am currently writing a math textbook and teaching my 3-year-old how to add. I am a sucker for artisan tea and my baby boy’s giggles. In my free time, you’ll find me spending time with my family, woodworking, or planning my next backyard homestead project.
